What is SJ 2020?
The San José 2020 (SJ2020) initiative was created to eliminate the achievement gap by 2020 through collaboration between the City of San Jose, the Santa Clara County Office of Education, school districts, charter schools, colleges, and business and nonprofit community agencies.
How does SJ Beyond the Bell help eliminate the achievement gap?
We believe that increased participation in out-of-school time programs can help bridge the achievement gap. Research indicates that up to two-thirds of said gap can be attributed to learning loss that occurs in out-of-time time.
San Jose Beyond the Bell is a tool that helps parents, educators, and service providers support their students by linking them to out-of-school time programs and resources in their local community.

What other initiatives has the city launched as a part of SJ2020?
The Early Learning Master Plan provides a framework for providing high quality early learning opportunities from young children for birth to age eight.
READy to SOAR addresses 3rd grade reading proficiency, with a focus on school readiness, chronic absence, and summer learning loss.
